The VM we provide is not specific for this lab only, it will be used as well for other labs. So, we recommand you to start with now so that you have only one environment to use throughout the these labs instead of chaging every time from one environment to another.
further, you will need IPv6 connectivity, which is not available everywhere. the VM we provide is configure with a teredo tunnel that provides IPv6 connectivity seamlessly over a IPv4 connectivity.
If you still want to use your own solution (your machine or docker), it is up to you, but we will not be able to provide you support for your specific environment. it will be very hard to support every student's specific environment.
