Quiz 2019 - Question 10

Hello,

I am not sure to understand the answer of question 10 of quiz 2019. The question clearly says : "you cannot send traffic to either of them". The answer is a denial-of-service attack but I thought that this attack consisted of spamming one of the end-systems so that it could not receive the original message. It goes against the instructions then.

Am I missing something ?

Thank you in advance.

Hey,

my thought is that you can not send traffic to them directly, but you can send traffic to a switch connecting them.

Devrim is right, the idea is that the attacker sends a lot of traffic that causes congestion (loss and queuing delay) at networks links and packet switches that are on the path from A to B, even if the attacker cannot talk to A and B directly.

HOWEVER: Last year we discussed this topic in more detail in class. This year I did not mention denial of service but superficially, so I would not ask such a question.
