Training quiz Q1

Training quiz Q1

Good morning,

I wanted to clarify something regarding the training quiz.

In the first question, we were asked to say whether or not a sentence was correct on various levels. Now  suppose that we have a sentence which is correct but has a small typo, e.g. This is an exmaple. This would of course be incorrect lexically but would it also imply that all the higher levels (syntax, semantics etc.) are also wrong? I was confused because the question specifies that we should identify which of the sentences are "correct to a human" who is of course capable of understanding this without any issues.

Best wishes,

Marie

Good question!
But don't be confuse: the question is whether THAT VERY sentence is correct or not; the question is not: once fixed, would it be correct at further levels (actually, when you say any human "is capable of understanding this without any issues", you are not referring to the same sentence but to the sentence where the word has been fixed).
For instance,
This is an exmaple sentence.
is incorrect at any level because "exmaple" is not a correct word, as for instance "#%$@X£", so as the sentence
This is an  #%$@X£ sentence.

Since an upper level requires the lower to be correct, it cannot be correct if any lower level is incorrect.
