You are allowed to use web documentation. I would recommend to check out the exercises that already took place, how Sobel was used there, at least these functions worked there and gave something meaningful. During GE, if you are not sure how the function behaves, simply try it out, maybe get an error but you will see the result to tune your code accordingly.
