I had two questions concerning the exercise 4 :


1) Is X the Pauli X matrix ?

2) Is the Euler Identity similar to the Euler identity used with complex numbers to pass from the polar circular coordinates to the polar exponential coordinates ?

Hello Quentin,
1) Yes, X is the Pauli X matrix = [0,1;1,0]
2) The Euler identity is similar to the one you mentioned(e^{i theta} = cos theta + i sin theta). The Euler identity for matrices that you need here is a generalization of the identity you proved in Exercise 2 of homework 4.
