Are the exercises for this course mandatory, and are we suposed to hand them in somewhere? And in that case, where?

No you are not supposed to hand in any exercises (you will only be required to hand in the miniprojects later).
We highly encourage you to do the exercises on your own and ask us questions if you're stuck since it is the best way to prepare yourself for the exam.
