Documentation for using Linux and the HPS

Hello students,

Many of you are interested in mini-projects that will likely require to use the ARM HPS and Linux.

For that purpose, you can use the demos from Sahand's Design Guide repository: https://github.com/sahandKashani/SoC-FPGA-Design-Guide

You will want to look at the DE1 demos and documentation. Normally, if you use the VM we provide you, the demos should be compilable and runnable without extra configuration, but ask us if you are stuck with any part of the process.

Have a nice week,

Jonathan

Hello students,

It appears that the VM does not include the required license for using the ARM DS-5 IDE, which is required to run Linux on the HPS. In the event that you need it for the VM, or if you want to try and install the tools on your own computer (though we do not recommend it), you can use the following license servers:

27004@eslsrv9.epfl.ch

27004@lsipc2.epfl.ch

27004@lappc2.epfl.ch

You can add them on DS-5 by going through Help => Arm License Manager => Use a license file... => Use an existing... => paste the server address

Note that if you are not on campus you will need to connect to vpn.epfl.ch

Cheers,

Jonathan
