It is mentioned that we can use an abstract variable like the head direction of a mouse $\theta$ instead of location of the neuron $x$ in the Field equation.

But I don't understand how we can interpret the equation in the case we use $\theta$:

1.  $h(x,t)$ means the potential of the cell at location x. What would $h(\theta,t)$ mean ?

2. $w(x-x')$ are the weights for neurons from location x' to x. what would $w(\theta-\theta')$ mean ?
