Questions on Lab OS

Hi all,

When I did the bonus part for Lab0 in my VirtualBox, the VM got stuck several times, especially when the output for some commands is super long in the terminal or when I ran the command with my Wireshark open. I thereby changed the memory allocation between my Mac and VM. However, the VM still got stuck. The hardware conf for my Mac is not bad at least with 16G memory and a 2.6 GHz i7 6-Core Intel chip.

Since the commands used for catching the bags are similar or nearly the same in most cases for Linux and Mac, could I run the lab in my Mac directly, which will be much faster than in a VM?

Looking forward to your answers and thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Hello Weiran,

Thank you for your question.

The virtual machine already has all the software and tools you will use in all the labs installed (e.g. wireshark, tshark for lab 0, but more for the future). The labs are extensively tested in the given virtual environment. Therefore, you should use VM for the labs.

Regarding your stuck VM, we advise you to allocate 1GB of RAM to VM. Commonly, with the hardware specifications that you have provided, that gives smooth executions of the commands. If your problem persists, don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,
Dubravka
