Folks,
Here is some information about our midterm, which will take place on Nov. 12.
Logistics
The midterm will be an open-book online exam. I expect each of you to complete their exam on their own, without any collaboration.
The midterm will cover everything we have covered in class, in homework, and in the labs. The lab-related questions will count for up to 20% of the overall grade.
The midterm will be made available on Moodle on Nov. 12, at 15h15, and it will stop being available on the same day, at 17h15 (except for those of you who have special arrangements and whom we will contact over the next few days).
You will have two options for submitting your answers:
- By completing an "online" version of the exam, where each exam problem will be presented as a Moodle quiz (e.g., see the online version of last year's midterm).
- By completing a "print & scan" version of the exam, i.e., downloading the whole exam as a PDF, adding your answers in any way you want, and uploading the completed exam (e.g., see the print & scan version of last year's midterm).
Please use last year's midterm to practice writing your answers and submitting them. Knowing where to write and where to click may seem obvious, but it can be stressful during an exam.
Preparation
If you find yourself running out of time to review everything, you can follow this priority list.
The best way to prepare is by trying to solve past midterms without looking at the solutions. Even if the answer does not seem immediately obvious to you, think how you would answer during a real exam. Not looking at the solutions makes all the difference in the world. You can find past midterms and their solutions on Moodle, under "Midterm preparation." You can find last year's midterm (which was online) separately, under "Practice midterm exam (2020), online version" and "Practice midterm exam (2020), print & scan version."
