Lab 1 Part 3.2, question 9 - 10

Good afternoon,

I have a question about the solution in Lab 1 Part 3.2 question 9 - 10.

In question 9 we were asked whether we can ping PC4 interfaces from PC1. We could ping PC4-eth0 (same subnet), but not PC4-eth1 and PC4-eth2 (different subnets). Thus, to reach interfaces PC4-eth0 and PC4-eth1, we need to configure default gateway in PC1.

In question 10 we were asked to fix the problem above. I thought that we need to set PC4 (10.10.10.4) as a default gateway in PC1 (10.10.10.1). Afterwards it is possible to reach PC4-eth1 and PC4-eth2.

The solution in question 10 proposed to set default gateway PC4 (10.10.30.4) in PC3 (10.10.30.3). I do not understand how this will help to ping PC4-eth1 and PC4-eth2 from PC1. Did I miss something or the solution is wrong?

Thank you very much,
Kamila

Hello Kamila,

In Q10 you are not asked to fix the problem in Q9, but rather the issue that you are faced afterwards (described in the lab pdf).

The goal of this question is not to ping only PC4 interface but to ping PC3 from PC1.

PC1 default gateway has already been configured by command given in the lab pdf to PC4-eth0.

The solution to the problem was to configure the default gateway to PC3, to be able to ping PC3.

Best,
Edin

Thank you very much! Now it makes sense. Next time I will pay more attention to the instructions.
